What does an Eye Exam consist of?

An eye examination is a battery of tests performed by an optometrist or ophthalmologist assessing vision and ability to focus on and discern objects, as well as other tests and examinations pertaining to the eyes. All people should have periodic and thorough eye examinations as part of routine primary care, especially since many eye diseases are silent or asymptomatic.

Eye examinations may detect potentially treatable blinding eye diseases, ocular manifestations of systemic disease, or signs of tumours or other anomalies of the brain.(from wikipedia.org)

Will there be a Prescription for glasses with my Eye Exam?

Yes, with every eye examination a prescription that can be used for eye glasses or prescription sun glasses. However, a contact lens prescription can vary from your eye glasses prescription. Make sure you ask your optician about the differences if you are also interested in contact lenses.

What are contact lens fittings?

A contact lens fitting is part of your eye examination that is conducted when a patient is interested in wearing contacts. This is an extra procedure that is conducted in addition to your routine eye exam to fit you in your contact lenses. The optometrist will give your eye exam and refraction as well as evaluate you as an individual patient for a recommended type of contact lens. Every patient has a different prescription therefore the fitting will vary from patient to patient.
